The quality of housing stock in this city varies widely.  Most of the homes in this area were constructed during the early 1900's.  Many of the properties have been renovated with modern amenities, but some not since the 1970's or before.  There are, however many homes that have upgraded their finishes during the past 10 years, while keeping the Victorian Era charms like ceiling medallions, crown moldings and stained glass accent windows.

Somerville Massachusetts offers their residents a property tax break for homes that are owner occupied.  This years residential tax exemption is a little over $1,900.  The complete city report on housing, and tax assessments can be found here: http://www.somervillema.gov/sites/default/files/FY2014CLASSREPORT.pdf

Somerville Massachusetts is looking forward to expanded public transportation options in the coming years , with the Green Line Extension Project.  The Greenline Extension Project will upgrade and enhance many of the city's "Squares" such as Gilman Square, and Magoun Square.  The city has published some reports, highlighting what these changes may bring.  The report for Gilman Square can be found here: http://www.somervillema.gov/sites/default/files/GilmanSAP-PublicReview8-21-2013.pdf

Upgrades to the city's public transportation options, as well as other improvements throughout the city, portend the continued appreciation of Somervilles housing stock. If you are interested in buying or selling Real Estate in Somerville Massachusetts, please give me a call to learn more.
